Come tell the AirQuality Control Commission that although the industry and some state government officials argue that Colorado is a leader in addressing oil and gas related pollution, given the leakage rates of methane, benzene, ozone and other dangerous chemicals – and the resultant negative health, climate and environmental consequences, whatever we have done is clearly not enough.
Over 378,000 Coloradans currently live within a mile of at least one oil and gas well, and petroleum development continues to expand into residential areas. Coloradans are relying upon them to keep them safe in the face of massive oil and gas development in the state. Ifthey cannot keep us safe in the midst of oil and gas development, we need to keep oil and gas in the ground until they can.
