Farm Forum #4
Raise your Voice! How Can the Boulder Land Use Policy Better Support Carbon Farming and Healthy Soils?
All Welcome. Potluck & Discussion. Jan. 11th. 6-9pm. Altona Grange. (Details below).
As citizens trying our best to live well on the land, we have an opportunity and obligation to shape public land use policy in our community. Boulder is a leader in renewable energy, all sorts of science, environmental activism, impact investing, natural foods and more. How can Boulder also be a beacon of change in land use and agriculture? How can our community guide policy that builds a regenerative economy in the grandest sense: enriching the earth and its citizens, not depleting it.
Boulder County seeks input on agricultural land use policy. Boulder County Agriculture Outreach is hosting the open house in Longmont on January 18th, when they will address the comments submitted by the public. Public comments are due January 12th. (Only one comment has been made, see links below). The Farm Forum will take place on the 11th. As a community, we will spend time discussing the current the Land Use Policy, formulate opinions and embark on completing surveys.
At the Farm Forum, we’ve been discussing the barriers to putting carbon farming into action. Significant challenges are associated with prohibitive regulations and limitations on land-use that often restrict the economic reward of agricultural goods produced by investing in soil. A range of Boulder County farmers will share their perspectives on needed change to set the stage for community dialogue and breakout groups.
