Puerto Rico has been devastated by hurricane Maria and needs your help. We’ve brought together leaders of the Puerto Rican community in Denver as well as business owners to help raise money to purchase Solar Lanterns to donate to Puerto Rican homes as they restore electricity throughout the island. Restoring light in PR can take from 6 months to a year. We’ve sourced the best lanterns and we are getting them at cost. You can see them here:
We are also partnering with Third Wave Volunteers to get the lights to the island and help distribute them.
Third Wave has warehouse facilties for storage and partnerships with cruise lines and air freight to get the lights as well as food and water to the island.
So there are two ways you can can help.
1. We would love everyone to particpate on Oct 10th at Sloans Tap and Burger by coming in and having lunch or dinner. This will be Puerto Rican food prepared by our community in Denver. 100% of the sales go to the effort. We are not functioning as Sloan’s Lake Tap and Burger that night, everything is volunteer based and every penny goes to the cause. Food-Drink-Music. Minumum $25 dollars gets you food and a beer or wine.
Beyond you personally attending we need you to bring along people. We will be open from 11am-10pm. Our goals is 500 people fed for the day. Let’s try and double that!
2. You can go to our fundraising page to donate, especially if you live out of Denver and can’t attend.

This has tremendous personal meaning to me as I have a lot of family and friends in PR, some of which we have not tracked down. We have a lot of Puerto Ricans in our community in Denver that are also facing the same issues. I personally will be heading down to Puerto Rico in a few weeks to help. We can talk about that as well.
