On February 1st, the Colorado Public Utilities Commission (PUC) is holding a public meeting to hear from the Denver community about Xcel Energy’s proposal to close 2 units at the Comanche coal plant and replace them with more affordable wind and solar.
We need you to join us and tell the PUC commissioners that:
Colorado supports clean energy and the jobs that come with it.
Denver doesn’t want its power coming from coal anymore. It’s time for clean energy!
Right now, Pueblo residents get ALL of the pollution and NONE of the electricity from the Comanche coal plant. We stand with the Pueblo activists and families who want this coal plant out of their community.
Xcel Energy is considering replacing Comanche coal units 1 & 2 with natural gas. This is unacceptable. Xcel’s dirty coal plants must be replaced with clean energy, NOT dirty fracked gas. We urge Xcel to maximize renewable energy when replacing power from the two Comanche units.
The closure of Comanche 1 & 2 will result in job transition for some of Xcel’s employees. We support our neighbors in making sure Xcel provides retraining and benefits for workers who will transition out of coal jobs.
