Falling In Love With The Future
When: Dec 27, 9:30am-4pm
Dónde: Iglesia Unitaria Universalista de Boulder
We’re building a time machine!
Come join us on as we test it out for the first time and travel into the future. Not just any future though. We’re taking a trip to the best-case-scenario future that’s not too far away: the year 2032.
In this timeline, humanity came together in 2026, coalescing to rapidly address our interconnected crises of climate change, social inequity, and the complex web of other environmental and social problems. We’re going to see what this world looks like just six years from now, as large-scale societal shifts are under way.
What does it feel like, taste like, sound like in the best-case-scenario future? What spurred this shift, and how has daily life changed for humanity?
This is our first time running our new workshop, “Falling In Love With The Future.” Part theater game, part art project, part grief, and part radical hope, this day is for anybody who feels hopeless, helpless, overwhelmed, or burned-out when facing the future.
Our failure to act as a society is first and foremost a failure of the imagination. Our society, especially our young people, need more imaginative spaces where we don’t just beat our heads against present inaction, but collectively create the future of our dreams. Right now, the best that most young people can offer is a future where we’ve done a few engine swaps on gas cars. It’s time for something more hopeful.
You can expect the workshop to be active, fun, and engaging. The goal in using our time machine is to offer people a space that exists outside the ordinary, where we can dream together. The neural pathways used for imagining the future are the same ones used for visiting our memories, and our time machine is helping us to build our very real capacity to bring about a more beautiful future.
