DESCRIPTION:Solidarity Mobilizations: a 2-part training on showing up for immigrant communities\nWhen: Jan 27\, 6pm-7:15pm \nWhere: Virtual \nREGISTER HERE! \n\n\n\nAcross the country\, immigrant communities are under attack and authoritarian forces are gaining ground. But there’s a growing movement of people ready to take action with clarity\, courage\, and discipline. This training is for all of us who want to stand up in solidarity\, especially those of us who are white who are ready to organize\, respond\, and show up with commitment and care. \nJoin us for Solidarity Mobilizations\, a powerful two-part training series hosted by Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ) and Solidarity Organizing Initiative (SOI). We’ll break down the political moment we’re in\, the authoritarian playbook driving these attacks\, and the role those of us who are white and/or citizens can play in pushing back effectively and strategically. \nEach session will have live transcription and will be recorded. The recording will be sent out to everyone who registers within 48 hours after each session. \nIn the first session\, you will: \n\nLearn to recognize and anticipate “Moments of Crisis” — and why they’re central to the authoritarian strategy\nUnderstand how direct support and crisis response work together in immigrant justice organizing\nGet grounded in the principles of strategic noncooperation and how it builds people power\n\nIn the second session\, you will: \n\nLearn how to provide direct support for immigrant communities\nGet clear on next steps you’re taking in your community\n\nWhether you’re brand new or have been in the fight for years\, this training will give you political clarity\, strategic tools\, and an invitation to join us in deeper solidarity. DESCRIPTION:Intersecting Birds\, Science\, and Art\nWhen: Jan 27\, 7:15pm-8:45pm \nWhere: Unitarian Universalist Church of Boulder \nLEARN MORE HERE! \nWhat do art\, science\, and eBird sightings all have in common?\nJoin us for an engaging presentation by Dr. Johanna Beam\, who will share her journey from teen naturalist to research scientist and scientific illustrator. Johanna will explore how eBird data are used by scientists and artists alike\, including how these data have helped illuminate species’ ranges and evolutionary history—highlighted through the Yellow-breasted Chat and the discovery of the Chihuahuan Meadowlark. \nDr. Beam is a postdoctoral research fellow at Colorado State University and Texas Tech University\, working with the Bird Genoscape Project. Her research focuses on evolutionary genomics in birds\, and she is also an accomplished scientific illustrator. As a high school student\, Johanna’s careful observation of an unusual meadowlark led to a genetic study that ultimately contributed to the recognition of a new bird species added to the official North American species list in 2022. \nIn-Person Program\nBCAS is pleased to welcome everyone back to in-person programs at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Boulder. Doors open at 6:30 PM for socializing with light refreshments\, and the program begins at 7:15 PM. Masks are optional; free surgical masks will be available. Please stay home if you are feeling sick. \nAn FM hearing assistive system is available in the Earth room where BCAS programs are held. The receivers and headsets for these can typically be found in a basket on the table to the right as you enter the double doors to the Earth room. There are four receivers of this type. They are fed sound directly from the sound system and the user can control the volume themselves.
