SUMMARY:Songs for a Sacred Earth: Alliance Center Earth Week Event
DESCRIPTION:Songs for a Sacred Earth: Alliance Center Earth Week Event\nWhen: April 23\, 4:30pm \nWhere: The Alliance Center\, Denver \nTICKETS HERE! \nJoin us during Earth Week for an evening of music\, reflection\, and connection exploring how sound\, spirit\, and story can deepen our relationship with the living world. \nSongs for a Sacred Earth brings together musicians\, teachers\, and practitioners from diverse traditions to share wisdom about ecological responsibility through sacred and expressive cultural forms. Through song and storytelling\, the gathering invites participants to experience climate care not only as policy or practice\, but as relationship\, one rooted in meaning\, resilience\, and collective imagination. \nCo-presented by Colorado Jewish Climate Action\, the Iliff School of Theology\, The Center for Earth Theology\, and the Alliance for Collective Action\, this event is part performance\, part convening space. It is designed to cultivate connection across faith\, spiritual\, and secular communities while strengthening the relational fabric needed to sustain climate work in challenging times. \nHeld during Earth Week — a moment dedicated to honoring and protecting our planet — this gathering asks: \nWhat might it sound like to care for Earth together? \nHow can music sustain us in the work of repair? \nWhat becomes possible when sacred wisdom and civic action meet? \nParticipants will experience live performances and facilitated moments of reflection in an immersive setting at The Alliance Center\, a hub for collaboration across Colorado’s climate and justice ecosystem. \nPerformers and practitioners will be announced soon. \nWe invite you to come listen\, reflect\, and connect; help us co-create a shared soundtrack for ecological care and collective action. \nWe want this gathering to be accessible to all. Scholarship tickets are available if cost is a barrier\, for students\, or if you need support attending. Please reach out to our Director of Programs\, Jolie\, at jbrawner@afca.earth \nEvent Partners: Colorado Jewish Climate Action\,  Iliff School of Theology\, The Center for Earth Theology\, The Alliance Center

SUMMARY:Grief and Resistance Ritual
DESCRIPTION:Grief and Resistance Ritual\nWhen: April 26\, 1pm-2:30pm \nWhere: Boulder Creek near Main Library \nLEARN MORE HERE! \nPlease join us for a community ceremony honoring our personal and collective grief and giving voice to our resistance. \nThis year has brought profound losses\, both personal and collective – the loss of loved ones\, the devastations of wars and genocide\, of attacks and imprisonment of immigrants\, of wild fires\, floods and drought\, of beloved species disappearing\, of racism and gender violence. \nWe gather to honor these losses. Our grief is an expression of love. \nGrieving and singing together helps us build our collective power and remember that we shine brighter when we act together. It is through honoring and sharing our grief that we sustain our resilience and create the energy and aliveness for what is needed next. \nWe welcome all who will join us in peace and ceremony. We welcome you as you are: afraid\, angry\, sad\, numb\, unsure\, and those carrying more than words can hold. \nIf you wish\, please bring something to offer to the creek – a flower\, a stone\, something that will not cause harm to the ecology.

SUMMARY:Challenges & Trade-offs in Achieving 100% Clean Electricity
DESCRIPTION:Challenges & Trade-offs in Achieving 100% Clean Electricity\nWhen: April 28\, 7pm \nWhere: Boulder Unitarian Universalist Church \nREGISTER HERE! \nOur Boulder County chapter welcomes Ron Sinton\, President of Sinton Instruments\, for a Speaker Series presentation exploring the challenges and trade-offs of achieving 100% renewable energy. \nThis talk will explore the interplay between solar\, wind\, storage\, and gas in the quest for affordable clean energy. \nThe focus will be on simple explanations that can be used to better visualize and understand more detailed plans. Decisions are being made now with less-than-perfect information about the future. Cost is an essential element\, as affordable clean electricity is the fundamental requirement to enable rapid progress in clean transportation and heating\, both of which now individually create more pollution than electricity in Colorado. \nJoin us in person in Boulder\, Colorado\, at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Boulder (UUCB). Arrive early for networking and light refreshments. The main presentation will start at 7 PM.

SUMMARY:Nuclear Power and Artificial Intelligence Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Nuclear Power and Artificial Intelligence Webinar\nWhere: April 29\, 4pm \nWhere: Virtual \nREGISTER HERE! \n\n\nJoin experts in nuclear tech & AI to learn about the environmental impact of small modular nuclear reactors and artificial intelligence. \n\n\n\n\nAs the result of an executive order from the Trump administration that removes any guardrails to protect the environment\, Colorado is being targeted for both new nuclear build (so-called “small modular reactors”) in Pueblo and a boom in data centers along the Front Range. \nThe Joanna Macy Center is honored to host two leading experts in nuclear technology and artificial intelligence in a webinar on April 29th 4PM Mountain Time. Professor MV Ramana\, author of Nuclear is not the Solution: The Folly of Atomic Power in the Age of Climate Change (Verso books\, 2024)\, and Professor Benedetta Brevini\, author of Is AI Good for the Planet? (Polity publisher\, 2021) will share their views and take your questions. \nThere is a lot of talk about a nuclear power renaissance\, but for now that remains to be seen. What we do know is that the main reason for new nuclear reactors is not to provide electricity for hospitals or heating for homes\, but rather to fuel industries that centralize power for the billionaire class. That is\, to provide energy for artificial intelligence\, cloud computing and bitcoin. None of these are necessary for life and in fact threaten the long-term health of people and local ecologies. Please join us on April 29th to learn more and understand how best to counter these dangerous proposals.

SUMMARY:Rain Barrel Webinar: How to Choose\, Install\, and Maintain a Rain Barrel
DESCRIPTION:Rain Barrel Webinar: How to Choose\, Install\, and Maintain a Rain Barrel \nWhen: April 29\, 6pm-7:30pm \nWhere: Virtual \nREGISTER HERE! \nSave water\, save money\, and protect water quality by installing a rain barrel at home! Installing a rain barrel is a small change that can make a big difference\, providing up to hundreds of extra gallons of water each year you can use to water your grass\, flowers\, and trees. Collecting rainwater and putting it to use in your yard “slows the flow” of water\, keeping it from becoming stormwater runoff that can pick up pollutants as it flows towards storm drains. This webinar will teach you how to choose\, install\, and maintain a rain barrel. We will also cover important information about the guidelines around rainwater harvesting in Colorado and have plenty of examples of what an installed rain barrel looks like. \nRegistration is free but required – register now for this rain barrel webinar. This webinar only includes a presentation – no rain barrels or installation kits will be distributed as part of this virtual event. After registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.

SUMMARY:NEIS: A Night with the Experts
DESCRIPTION:NEIS: A Night with the Experts\nWhen: April 30\, 6pm \nWhere: Virtual \nREGISTER HERE! \nIn March 2025\, President Trump signed Executive Order (EO) 14300 directing the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to relax the radiation protection regulations protecting nuclear workers and the public. \nThrough the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA) and Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act (EEOICPA)\, more than $33 billion had been paid out to victims of radiation exposures from being downwind of nuclear bomb testing or working at nuclear weapons facilities. The US Congress found that 98 percent of the radiation-related illnesses and deaths resulted from radiation exposures LESS than the federal limits. This evidence strongly suggests that the existing radiation protection limits are non-conservative and certainly do not support raising the limits to harm even more Americans.
