SUMMARY:Spaceship Earth Multimedia Presentation Boulder Arts Week!
DESCRIPTION:Spaceship Earth Multimedia Presentation Boulder Arts Week!\nWhen: April 6\, 5:30-6:30pm \nWhere: Junkyard Social Club \nLEARN MORE HERE! \nJoin us for Boulder Arts Week and celebrate the 56th Anniversary of Earth Day in this wonderful space that is woman owned and LGBTQ+ friendly at Junkyard Social Club in beautiful Boulder\, Colorado! \nAs a musician and activist\, I will be sharing my multimedia presentation with art\, photography\, science and live music (Laurie D) I created in 2012\, Spaceship Earth: What Can I Do? Ask yourself “What can I do?” You can be part of the solution! Have fun learning all kinds of simple acts we can all take to create more sustainable communities and this beautiful planet we share! \nOur precious planet is like a spaceship out in space. We only have so much water\, air\, resources that will NOT be re-supplied! The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) states that over 40% of our greenhouse emissions come from the way products are extracted\, produced\, transported\, and gotten rid of (even recycling takes energy). They also say that striving for zero waste is one of the easiest and quickest ways to fight climate change! \n“Spaceship earth is not really a metaphor: we’ve got one planet\, and it’s experiencing unprecedented mechanical difficulties. This presentation helps remind us how we can do our part to get it back on course.” – Bill McKibben best selling author and founder of 350.0rg \n“Laurie’s “What Can I Do?” Spaceship Earth is powerful!” – Jared Polis – Governor Colorado \n“This woman taught me more in an hour performance about what I can do to help save our planet than I’ve learned in the past 10 years!” – Stacy

SUMMARY:Standing up to the billionaire agenda: SURJ in conversation with Graham Platner
DESCRIPTION:Standing up to the billionaire agenda: SURJ in conversation with Graham Platner\nWhen: April 7\, 4pm-5pm \nWhere: Virtual \nREGISTER HERE! \nJoin Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ) in conversation with Graham Platner\, a working-class oyster farmer running in the Democratic primary for Senate in Maine. SURJ has endorsed Platner because we believe that his vision for taking on the divide-and-conquer tactics of the billionaire agenda by building the multi-racial\, working-class is exactly what we need right now\, not only to fight against MAGA\, but also to stand up to mainstream Democrats who are failing to lead us towards a country that puts people above profit. \nWith SURJ leaders\, we’ll discuss how his combat deployments in the Middle East shaped his anti-war politics\, what it will take to divert white men from the far right online pipeline\, and how we can work to expand our movement for racial and economic justice and stand up to the billionaire agenda.

SUMMARY:Seaweed Stories for a More Sustainable Future (Film screening and Panel)
DESCRIPTION:Seaweed Stories for a More Sustainable Future (Film screening and Panel)\nWhen: April 9\, 5pm-6:30pm \nWhere: CU Boulder\, CASE Building \nLEARN MORE HERE! \nAs the ocean faces the triple threat of plastic pollution\, biodiversity loss\, and climate change\, many are turning to the power of seaweed to help solve these challenges. Seaweed Stories is a short film including insights from a Silicon Valley startup creating plastic alternatives from macro-algae\, to the Indigenous Shinnecock Kelp Farmers using seaweed to prove their sovereign right to coastal land\, and a scientist in South Korea supporting seaweeds’ sexual reproduction to create new species that can withstand the effects of a changing climate. We will discuss what students can do on our campus and what community can do in our backyard\, as well as critically think about proposed solutions and our planetary imagination for a more sustainable future. \nSeaweed Stories is a 30-minute film featuring the wonders of seaweed\, and some of the extraordinary stories and unique characters whose lives have been entangled by this too often overlooked marine plant that may hold answers to some of humanity’s biggest challenges. The panel afterwards will prompt a discussion about science\, storytelling\, and marine life—as well as our hopes and fears for a more sustainable future. Emy Kane (CU Boulder ‘13 and Executive Director of the NGO Lonely Whale) will be joined by Dr. Emily Yeh (Geography)\, Dr. Paige Hoel (Oceanographer)\, Vicki Nichols Goldstein (Executive Director of the Boulder-based Inland Ocean Coalition)\, and Clementine Clyker (CU Boulder sustainability student leader). The event is co-hosted by the Sustainability and Storytelling Lab\, NEST\, and the CU Environmental Center with Jo Marras Tate hosting.

SUMMARY:TIME AND WATER\, followed by a Call2Action Panel
DESCRIPTION:TIME AND WATER\, followed by a Call2Action Panel\nWhen: April 10\, 10am \nWhere: Grace Commons \nTICKETS HERE! \n\nFacing the death of his country’s glaciers and the loss of his beloved grandparents\, renowned Icelandic poet and author Andri Snær Magnason turns his archives into a time capsule to hold what is slipping away: family\, memory\, time and water. As the glacial ice of his homeland melts\, he constructs a cinematic time capsule to hold onto this moment and send it to the future\, before everything he loves slips away. Using his own collected archives\, his grandparents’ photographs and films\, as well as traditional songs and folktales\, Andri interlaces his family’s story with that of the land around him. From Oscar–nominated director Sara Dosa\, Time and Water is a universal reflection on the power of home and what it means to be alive amid profound\, epochal change. \n\n\n\nCall2Action Panel: “The cycle of time and water is a link to all knowledge.” Our post-film panel features experts on the film’s main topics: the climate crisis—Micah Parkin\, Executive Director and Co-Founder of 350 Colorado; melting of the world’s glaciers—Ulyana Horodyskyj Peña\, Arctic Glaciologist\, and Ted Scambos\, Senior Research Scientist studying the shrinking of Colorado’s iconic Arapaho Glacier; and story-telling by environmental writer Steve Jones.
