DESCRIPTION:Beyond Burnout: Mindful Compassion for Those Who Carry a Lot\nWhen: Feb 17\, 5:30pm-7pm \nWhere: Virtual \nREGISTER HERE! \nWith so many demands on our attention and energy\, many of us experience a narrowing of capacity—where overwhelm sets in and it becomes harder to remain fully engaged. In this 90-minute workshop\, we’ll explore how to shift from strain toward embodied compassion by drawing on both contemporary science and timeless contemplative wisdom. \nTogether\, we’ll explore how compassion-based skills support responding—rather than reacting—to stress and overload\, and how we can intentionally awaken our innate capacity for aligned care when the weight of caring begins to feel like too much. We’ll examine key insights from research on burnout and resilience\, and ground them in experiential practices that help translate understanding into lived experience. \nBy the end of our time together\, you’ll leave with practical tools and an accessible practice to help transform overwhelm into compassionate presence—so you can care without collapse and remain open\, connected\, and effective. \nOffered as part of Naropa University’s Café Contemplative series\, this session invites you into shared inquiry\, reflection\, and practical skill-building—whether you’re new to contemplative practice or deeply engaged in related work. \nThis free workshop also serves as an orientation to our upcoming Mindful Compassion Training\, beginning March 10. DESCRIPTION:The Black Panther Party\, the 1960s Black Freedom Struggle\, and Their Significance in Trump’s America: A Panel Discussion with Former Party Members\nWhen: Feb 12\, 7pm-9pm \nWhere: Norlin Library\, CU Boulder \nRSVP HERE! \nThe CU Boulder Department of History and the Center for African and African American Studies invite the public to a panel discussion with Gayle Dickson\, Aaron Dixon\, Ericka Huggins\, and Billy X Jennings\, former members of the Black Panther Party (for Self Defense). They are joined by photographer and college professor Suzun Lucia Lamaina\, who spent five years working on a social documentary photographic essay about former Party members. \nThe panel tackles the history of the Black Panther Party and the 1960s Black Freedom Struggle along with their legacies in Trump’s America. The program is part of the accompanying events for the traveling exhibit “Revolutionary Grain: Celebrating the Spirit of the Black Panther Party in Portraits and Stories” that is currently on display in Macky Gallery. It is also part of this year’s Black History Month events.

While the past year may have felt the heaviness of the world and chose to look inward and perhaps even go underground\, now is the time to alight our connections with all sentient beings.  The work of liberation requires going beyond our boundaries of comfort and needs to include all beings.
