SUMMARY:Beyond Burnout: Mindful Compassion for Those Who Carry a Lot
DESCRIPTION:Beyond Burnout: Mindful Compassion for Those Who Carry a Lot\nWhen: Feb 17\, 5:30pm-7pm \nWhere: Virtual \nREGISTER HERE! \nWith so many demands on our attention and energy\, many of us experience a narrowing of capacity—where overwhelm sets in and it becomes harder to remain fully engaged. In this 90-minute workshop\, we’ll explore how to shift from strain toward embodied compassion by drawing on both contemporary science and timeless contemplative wisdom. \nTogether\, we’ll explore how compassion-based skills support responding—rather than reacting—to stress and overload\, and how we can intentionally awaken our innate capacity for aligned care when the weight of caring begins to feel like too much. We’ll examine key insights from research on burnout and resilience\, and ground them in experiential practices that help translate understanding into lived experience. \nBy the end of our time together\, you’ll leave with practical tools and an accessible practice to help transform overwhelm into compassionate presence—so you can care without collapse and remain open\, connected\, and effective. \nOffered as part of Naropa University’s Café Contemplative series\, this session invites you into shared inquiry\, reflection\, and practical skill-building—whether you’re new to contemplative practice or deeply engaged in related work. \nThis free workshop also serves as an orientation to our upcoming Mindful Compassion Training\, beginning March 10. Those who are interested will have an opportunity to learn more about the full training experience.

SUMMARY:Intersecting Birds\, Science\, and Art
DESCRIPTION:Intersecting Birds\, Science\, and Art\nWhen: Jan 27\, 7:15pm-8:45pm \nWhere: Unitarian Universalist Church of Boulder \nLEARN MORE HERE! \nWhat do art\, science\, and eBird sightings all have in common?\nJoin us for an engaging presentation by Dr. Johanna Beam\, who will share her journey from teen naturalist to research scientist and scientific illustrator. Johanna will explore how eBird data are used by scientists and artists alike\, including how these data have helped illuminate species’ ranges and evolutionary history—highlighted through the Yellow-breasted Chat and the discovery of the Chihuahuan Meadowlark. \nDr. Beam is a postdoctoral research fellow at Colorado State University and Texas Tech University\, working with the Bird Genoscape Project. Her research focuses on evolutionary genomics in birds\, and she is also an accomplished scientific illustrator. As a high school student\, Johanna’s careful observation of an unusual meadowlark led to a genetic study that ultimately contributed to the recognition of a new bird species added to the official North American species list in 2022. \nIn-Person Program\nBCAS is pleased to welcome everyone back to in-person programs at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Boulder. Doors open at 6:30 PM for socializing with light refreshments\, and the program begins at 7:15 PM. Masks are optional; free surgical masks will be available. Please stay home if you are feeling sick. \nAn FM hearing assistive system is available in the Earth room where BCAS programs are held. The receivers and headsets for these can typically be found in a basket on the table to the right as you enter the double doors to the Earth room. There are four receivers of this type. They are fed sound directly from the sound system and the user can control the volume themselves. More information on how to use these systems –  links to  https://centerforhearingaccess.org/wp-content/uploads/How-to-use-assistive-listening-systems.pdf?t=1768882810  \nOnline Program (Zoom)\nThe Zoom meeting room opens at 7:10 PM\, with the program beginning at 7:15 PM. Questions for the speaker will be taken through the chat feature. The zoom like will be posted here on the day of the event Intersecting Birds\, Science\, and Art — Boulder County Audubon. \nWe hope you’ll join us for this unique evening at the intersection of birding\, science\, and art.

SUMMARY:Measuring Recycled Content: The Fine Print That Shapes EPR
DESCRIPTION:Measuring Recycled Content: The Fine Print That Shapes EPR\nWhen: Jan 22\, 2pm \nWhere: Zoom \nREGISTER HERE! \nAs states implement new Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) programs for packaging\, one complex but crucial issue is emerging: how recycled content is measured. The plastics industry is increasingly promoting mass balance accounting — a system that allows producers to claim “recycled” content on paper without physically using recycled materials. \nJoin us as we break down how these accounting methods work\, what’s unfolding in Colorado’s EPR implementation\, and why getting this right is essential to protecting recycling integrity and driving real waste reduction.

SUMMARY:Motus Theater Presents: 4th Annual Dr. King Jr. Performance with Motus & The ReMINDers
DESCRIPTION:Motus Theater Presents: 4th Annual Dr. King Jr. Performance with Motus & The ReMINDers\nWhen: Jan 19\, 3pm\nWhere: Dairy Arts Center\nTICKETS HERE!\n\nThe ReMINDers are a rare and remarkable musical duo with undeniable magical chemistry\, The ReMINDers transcend the bounds of expectation to uplift and entertain. They seamlessly blend razor-sharp rhythms and raw\, soulful vocals with reggae-tinged hip-hop beats to highlight their relevant and inspiring messages. The couple shares a partnership in both music and life as Samir and Aja have been married for over a decade. The ReMINDers have been recognized and applauded for their work internationally through concerts\, tours\, music awards\, and TV and radio appearances. They have shared the stage with artists such as Nas\, Big Boi\, and Ms. Lauryn Hill. \nMotus Theater’s Youth Behind & Beyond Bars: Stories from the Frontlines of the Juvenile Legal System brings powerful\, artistically-crafted personal stories from adults who survived incarceration as youth. This moving autobiographical performance lifts the curtain on the realities of the juvenile legal system while inspiring action toward true justice. The script for this performance was written by Motus Artistic Executive Director Kirsten Wilson based on writings\, conversations\, and reflections of Lorenzo Allen\, Durrel Bumphus\, Lawrence Hershel Goshon\, Raymond Johnson\, Juaquin Mobley\, Michael Rollerson\, and Big Shakur (James Williams). \nMotus Theater facilitates dialogue on critical issues of our time by creating original theater. Motus’ work leverages the power of art to build alliances across diverse segments of our community and country. We specialize in developing artfully crafted personal narratives with leaders on the frontlines of violence in the U.S.\, putting them center stage as the protagonists in the American drama.
