SUMMARY:Pesticides in Towns and Cities Landscapes: Contamination in Unexpected Places
DESCRIPTION:Pesticides in Towns and Cities Landscapes: Contamination in Unexpected Places\n\n\n\n\nWhen: Nov 13\, 11am\nWhere: Virtual\nREGISTER HERE!\n\nPesticides are a major contributor to declines in pollinators and other invertebrates. Unfortunately\, our towns and cities are not immune — plants\, soil\, and waterways are often contaminated with these chemicals\, both from applications in yards and parks and from hidden movement from far-off sources.\nHow can we best address this risk to the bees\, butterflies\, and other insects that live in our urban green spaces?\n\nIn this talk\, join Aaron Anderson from Xerces’ pesticide team to learn about a recent Xerces study investigating pesticide residues on butterfly host plants in two cities. We’ll discuss our results\, why the choices we make in our residential landscapes matter\, and ideas to protect residential pollinator habitat from pesticides.

DESCRIPTION:Stopping the Polluter Playground\nWhen: Nov 13\, 5pm-6:15pm \nWhere: Virtual \nREGISTER HERE! \nOil and gas companies spent 450 million to get Trump and Congressional Republicans elected so they can continue to poison our communities and climate without consequence. \nThat’s why\, on Thursday\, November 13\, we’re teaming up with Public Citizen and the Revolving Door Project to share their findings from “Trump’s Polluter Playground\,” to peer behind the curtain in all the ways these corrupt companies are getting their money’s worth. \nThis new report details just how deeply these polluting corporations have infiltrated the federal agencies\, such as the EPA\, which is supposed to work for us to protect our air\, water\, and climate. \nJoin us to learn how we can expose the dirty dealings of fossil fuel companies and the politicians in their pockets and take the next steps to and organize our communities to stop them.

SUMMARY:The Genocide of Native Hawaiians
DESCRIPTION:The Genocide of Native Hawaiians\nWhen: Dec 4\, 6pm-7:30pm \nWhere: Virtual \nREGISTER HERE! \nKalaniākea translates as Sky Father\, descended from the heavens. He traces his genealogy to the origin of the Hawaiian race over 25\,000 years ago. Hawaiian society developed into a highly sophisticated society over millennia and thrived in the middle of the largest ocean in the Pacific. Soon after contact\, Hawaiian chiefs won recognition under international law as the Hawaiian Kingdom. The U.S. invasion on January 16\, 1893\, initiated a state of war that continues today. Genocidal policies have persisted through the establishment of the territory in 1900 and statehood in 1959. Kalaniākea will outline this history and its ongoing consequences\, based on his PhD dissertation research. He will lift up contemporary movements to defend Native Hawaiians’ rights to land\, language\, culture\, and sovereignty. \nThis event is taking the place of the previously-planned event: Ua Mau Ke Ea O Ka ʻĀina I Ka Pono\, the Life of the Land is Perpetuated in Righteousness\, which needed to be postponed for medical reasons. \nThis is a virtual presentation. SUMMARY:A Return to the Earth: Module 1 Cultural Perspectives
DESCRIPTION:A Return to the Earth: Module 1 Cultural Perspectives\nWhen: Jan 10\, 1:30-3pm \nWhere: Virtual \nREGISTER HERE! \nModule One defines culture and expands and elaborates upon cultural perceptions as they relate to our personal lives and the lives of our ancestors and how that affects us today. \nWe will probe deeply into common and personal landscapes of culture and what this means as we move toward being decolonized people. As human beings we mirror each other and long to connect\, to interact\, to create relationship with\, to live with a sense of belonging and a sense of shared “commons\,” a place where we fully realize that “other” is essential for self-fulfillment as a human being. We need each other. \nAs we move into relationships\, we come to understand the cultural lens through which we see the world. How a person sees the world is how a person acts toward the world. \nThis is the first module of a 4-part series. You are encouraged (but not required) to also register for as many of the other modules as you are able to attend: \nModule 2: Seeing with a Native Eye — Saturday\, January 24th\, 2026 \nModule 3: Colonization — Saturday\, February 7th\, 2026 \nModule 4: Decolonization — Saturday\, February 21st\, 2026 \nThis is a virtual presentation.
