SUMMARY:Solidarity Mobilizations: a 2-part training on showing up for immigrant communities
DESCRIPTION:Solidarity Mobilizations: a 2-part training on showing up for immigrant communities\nWhen: Jan 27\, 6pm-7:15pm \nWhere: Virtual \nREGISTER HERE! \n\n\n\nAcross the country\, immigrant communities are under attack and authoritarian forces are gaining ground. But there’s a growing movement of people ready to take action with clarity\, courage\, and discipline. This training is for all of us who want to stand up in solidarity\, especially those of us who are white who are ready to organize\, respond\, and show up with commitment and care. \nJoin us for Solidarity Mobilizations\, a powerful two-part training series hosted by Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ) and Solidarity Organizing Initiative (SOI). We’ll break down the political moment we’re in\, the authoritarian playbook driving these attacks\, and the role those of us who are white and/or citizens can play in pushing back effectively and strategically. \nEach session will have live transcription and will be recorded. The recording will be sent out to everyone who registers within 48 hours after each session. \nIn the first session\, you will: \n\nLearn to recognize and anticipate “Moments of Crisis” — and why they’re central to the authoritarian strategy\nUnderstand how direct support and crisis response work together in immigrant justice organizing\nGet grounded in the principles of strategic noncooperation and how it builds people power\n\nIn the second session\, you will: \n\nLearn how to provide direct support for immigrant communities\nGet clear on next steps you’re taking in your community\n\nWhether you’re brand new or have been in the fight for years\, this training will give you political clarity\, strategic tools\, and an invitation to join us in deeper solidarity. This is just the beginning\, let’s get ready together. \n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Intersecting Birds\, Science\, and Art
DESCRIPTION:Intersecting Birds\, Science\, and Art\nWhen: Jan 27\, 7:15pm-8:45pm \nWhere: Unitarian Universalist Church of Boulder \nLEARN MORE HERE! \nWhat do art\, science\, and eBird sightings all have in common?\nJoin us for an engaging presentation by Dr. Johanna Beam\, who will share her journey from teen naturalist to research scientist and scientific illustrator. Johanna will explore how eBird data are used by scientists and artists alike\, including how these data have helped illuminate species’ ranges and evolutionary history—highlighted through the Yellow-breasted Chat and the discovery of the Chihuahuan Meadowlark. \nDr. Beam is a postdoctoral research fellow at Colorado State University and Texas Tech University\, working with the Bird Genoscape Project. Her research focuses on evolutionary genomics in birds\, and she is also an accomplished scientific illustrator. As a high school student\, Johanna’s careful observation of an unusual meadowlark led to a genetic study that ultimately contributed to the recognition of a new bird species added to the official North American species list in 2022. \nIn-Person Program\nBCAS is pleased to welcome everyone back to in-person programs at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Boulder. Doors open at 6:30 PM for socializing with light refreshments\, and the program begins at 7:15 PM. Masks are optional; free surgical masks will be available. Please stay home if you are feeling sick. \nAn FM hearing assistive system is available in the Earth room where BCAS programs are held. The receivers and headsets for these can typically be found in a basket on the table to the right as you enter the double doors to the Earth room. There are four receivers of this type. They are fed sound directly from the sound system and the user can control the volume themselves. More information on how to use these systems –  links to  https://centerforhearingaccess.org/wp-content/uploads/How-to-use-assistive-listening-systems.pdf?t=1768882810  \nOnline Program (Zoom)\nThe Zoom meeting room opens at 7:10 PM\, with the program beginning at 7:15 PM. Questions for the speaker will be taken through the chat feature. The zoom like will be posted here on the day of the event Intersecting Birds\, Science\, and Art — Boulder County Audubon. \nWe hope you’ll join us for this unique evening at the intersection of birding\, science\, and art.

SUMMARY:The Man Who Saves the World?
DESCRIPTION:The Man Who Saves the World?\nWhen: Jan 30\, 8pm \nWhere: Boulder Theater \nTICKETS HERE! \n\nA Night of Film\, Mind-Blowing Prophecy\, and a Journey into the Unknown\nFrom the executive producer team of Peter Farrelly (Green Book)\, Rough House Pictures (Danny McBride\, David Gordon Green\, Jody Hill)\, and Area 23a (Fantastic Fungi)—comes a cinematic experience unlike anything you’ve seen before. \nThis isn’t just a screening. It’s a live event.\nJoin spiritual journeyman Patrick McCollum\, acclaimed director Gabe Polsky\, and special guests at The Boulder Theatre for an unforgettable evening of film\, storytelling\, and conversation. Meet the documentary’s extraordinary subject in person: kung fu master\, U.N. peacekeeper\, Wiccan chaplain\, and the man prophesied to save the Amazon. Boulder Sound Therapy will open the evening with an immersive sound bath that invites guests into an almost otherworldly calm\, setting the tone for a night where boundaries between the seen and unseen begin to blur. \nThe Story\nWhen director Gabe Polsky gets swept into Patrick McCollum’s orbit\, it sparks a globe-spanning adventure where the absurd and the profound collide. Along the way\, they cross paths with legends like Jane Goodall and Chief Phil Lane Jr.\, uncovering a mission that might just be crazy enough to save the planet. \nThe Man Who Saves the World? is a bold documentary that blends spiritual prophecy\, environmental urgency\, and character study into something entirely unique. It explores humanity’s biggest questions with humor\, heart\, and surreal twists that will leave you laughing\, questioning\, and seeing the world through new eyes.

SUMMARY:Climate Grief\, Spiritual Resilience\, and Hope
DESCRIPTION:Climate Grief\, Spiritual Resilience\, and Hope\nWhen: Feb 1\, 1:30pm-3:30pm \nWhere: Congregation Har HaShem \nREGISTER HERE! \nThe Symposium will focus on bringing people together to explore perspectives on environmentalism from faith and spiritual traditions. We bring forward teachers\, academics\, faith-based activists in dialogue and shared learning. Our hope: greater understanding leading to greater engagement in acts of environmental protection and justice. \nThis year\, we welcome Rev. Dr. Allen Ewing-Merrill\, Executive Director of the BTS Center. \n“Inspired by the vision of human hearts renewed\, justice established\, and creation restored\, we are paying particular attention to deep and important questions about global climate crisis and the ways in which that must inform and transform spiritual practice and faith leadership — and of course\, how ecological devastation also intersects with other issues of social justice\, spirituality\, and the practice of faith.” – Rev. SUMMARY:Symposium on Spirituality and the Environment 2026
DESCRIPTION:Symposium on Spirituality and the Environment 2026:Climate Grief\, Spiritual Resilience\, and Hope\nWhen: Feb 1\, 1:30-3:30pm\nWhere: Congregation Har Hashem\nREGISTER HERE!\n\n\nNo longer can we think of climate change as something that’s off in the future — scientists’ prediction of something that is coming. We are living in a climate-changed world. Where shall we find the wisdom we need for the living of our days? How shall we think about hope now? And what practices might we embrace to nurture the spiritual resilience we need for this season that is so fraught with challenges and so filled with opportunity? \nDuring this year’s Symposium on Spirituality and the Environment\, Rev. Dr. Allen Ewing-Merrill\, Executive Director of The BTS Center\, will invite us to explore the psycho-social-spiritual dimensions of the climate crisis\, the array of climate emotions — climate anxiety\, ecological grief\, and moral injury — as well as the invitation to practices of gratitude\, wonder\, and hope. We’ll consider how Creation invites us into relationships as healer\, teacher\, and friend. \nWe hope you join us as we navigate this turbulent & uncertain time in all our lives. \nWe’ll be gathering together in person. This program will also be livestreamed on our YouTube channel.

SUMMARY:Trash the Runway
DESCRIPTION:Trash the Runway\n\n\n\n\nWhen: Feb 7\, 7pm\nWhere: Macky Auditorium Concert Hall\nTICKETS HERE! \n\n\nTrash The Runway®\, is a nonprofit organization that hosts a design competition using fashion\, creativity\, and sustainability as a catalyst to unlock resilience\, confidence\, and new ways of critical thinking in young people. Middle and high school students are challenged to source\, design\, and create a high-fashion garment made entirely out of found\, non-recyclable or non-compostable materials entirely on their own. Over the years\, participants have used everything from discarded dog food bags\, climbing rope\, bicycle inner tubes\, and trampoline material\, to bubble wrap\, tea bags\, computer keyboards\, wallpaper samples\, carpet backing\, race bibs\, and more.\n\n\nParticipants have two months to complete their design\, creating garments that range from elegant evening gowns to whimsical leisure attire and funky streetwear. The final garments are showcased at a runway fashion show and competition that rivals the beauty and creativity of the couture seen on the catwalks during New York or Paris Fashion Week.
