SUMMARY:The Feeling of Being Watched viewing and conversation
DESCRIPTION:The Feeling of Being Watched viewing and conversation\nWhen: Nov 22\, 6pm-9pm \nWhere: Canyon Theater\, Boulder Public Library \nTICKETS HERE! \nIn the Arab-American neighborhood outside of Chicago where director Assia Boundaoui grew up\, most of her neighbors think they have been under surveillance for over a decade. While investigating their experiences\, Assia uncovers tens of thousands of pages of FBI documents that prove her hometown was the subject of one of the largest counterterrorism investigations ever conducted in the U.S. before 9/11\, code-named “Operation Vulgar Betrayal.” With unprecedented access\, The Feeling of Being Watched weaves the personal and the political as it follows the filmmaker’s examination of why her community fell under blanket government surveillance. Assia struggles to disrupt the government secrecy shrouding what happened and takes the FBI to federal court to compel them to make the records they collected about her community public. In the process\, she confronts long-hidden truths about the FBI’s relationship to her community. The Feeling of Being Watched follows Assia as she pieces together this secret FBI operation\, while grappling with the effects of a lifetime of surveillance on herself and her family. \nBoulder SURJ is proud to present the next event of our Justice Film Series! Doors will open at 6PM\, and we will be meeting in the Canyon Theater in the Boulder Public Library. The programming will begin at 6:15 sharp\, so plan on arriving early to allow time for parking and finding snacks & seating before the movie starts. \nWe will have two-three excellent community facilitators to lead conversation after the showing\, to be determined as of right now. \nThis event is FREE\, though donations are welcome so that we can contiue our programming into 2025 and keep paying our filmmakers and facillitators while maintaining a zero cost experience and remain open to all who would like to come! If you are able\, please donate through our 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor\, Longmont Community Foundation.

DESCRIPTION:Longmont Farmers Market\nWhen: Saturdays\, 8am-1pm \nWhere: Boulder County Fairgrounds \nLEARN MORE HERE! \n\n\n\n\nLong before Longmont was know as a bustling tech center\, it was sustained by thousands of acres of farmland — starting with the establishment of a flour mill in 1887\, and later with the vegetable cannery built in 1889. These days\, Longmont farms provide much more than just sugar beets\, and preserved farm land in Longmont and beyond helps fill our market with fresh\, seasonal vegetables\, dairy products\, and Colorado-raised meats. We’re proud to be a growers-only market\, meaning every product at the Longmont Farmers Market is created locally and sold by the vendors who produce it. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe’re proud to host over 100 local vendors at the Longmont Farmers Market this season. These small\, family-owned businesses are the heart of our market\, providing fresh groceries\, pantry products\, and ready-to-eat deliciousness all in one place. \n\n2025 Vendor List

DESCRIPTION:Pesticides in Towns and Cities Landscapes: Contamination in Unexpected Places\n\n\n\n\nWhen: Nov 13\, 11am\nWhere: Virtual\nREGISTER HERE!\n\nPesticides are a major contributor to declines in pollinators and other invertebrates. Unfortunately\, our towns and cities are not immune — plants\, soil\, and waterways are often contaminated with these chemicals\, both from applications in yards and parks and from hidden movement from far-off sources.\nHow can we best address this risk to the bees\, butterflies\, and other insects that live in our urban green spaces?\n\nIn this talk\, join Aaron Anderson from Xerces’ pesticide team to learn about a recent Xerces study investigating pesticide residues on butterfly host plants in two cities. We’ll discuss our results\, why the choices we make in our residential landscapes matter\, and ideas to protect residential pollinator habitat from pesticides.

SUMMARY:Antarctic ecosystems: From Microscopic Plants to Penguins
DESCRIPTION:Antarctic ecosystems: From Microscopic Plants to Penguins\nWhen: Nov 12\, 7pm-8:30pm \nWhere: NCAR Mesa Lab \nREGISTER HERE! \nThe U.S. National Science Foundation National Center for Atmospheric Research (NSF NCAR) invites you to the Mesa lab for an Explorer Series lecture\, “Antarctic ecosystems: From Microscopic Plants to Penguins” on Wednesday\, November 12 from 7:00-8:30 pm (MT). \nThis event will be a live hybrid webcast with options to attend in person at the NSF NCAR Mesa Laboratory or virtually. Please register and tell us if you will be attending in person or online. This will allow you to receive email reminders. If you’re attending virtually\, an email will have the link to the webcast and details on how to participate. \nEvent Summary \nThe Antarctic is undergoing rapid systemic change\, marked by significant reductions in frozen water\, including glaciers\, ice shelves and sheets\, and sea ice. This unprecedented transformation will have profound impacts on polar ecosystems\, affecting life from phytoplankton to penguins and\, ultimately\, people. \nIn this NSF NCAR Explorer Series lecture\, Dr. Kristen Krumhardt and Dr. Alice DuVivier explore how Earth System Models (ESMs) are used to investigate polar ecosystem change. They also discuss possible implications for people and animals in these regions and policy considerations to help protect vulnerable ecosystems. \nFree public event recommended for ages 12+ \nFor more information and to watch archived lectures\, visit the NSF NCAR Explorer Series webpage. \nWe look forward to seeing you there!
