We Need All Hands On Deck!

With Boulder City Council declaring a climate emergency, the city has committed to creating a new phase of ambitious climate action seizing the opportunity to create exciting and sustainable systems that build on our community values of equity and resilience. This must be a community-driven plan, so Boulder dot Earth is partnering with the city to create more collaboration and participation by engaging our community of organizations, businesses, individuals and institutions.

Net Zero Cities Conference

March 5  This all-day event will consist of 7 total sessions, with a plenary breakfast and lunch session flanking two concurrent sessions in between. Each panel session will include four panelists and a moderator. Session topics include: Net Zero Colorado, The Circular Economy, Electrifying Mobility, Climate Change, Business & Industry, Building Smart, The Growing Urgency and Reliability in a Net-Zero World. April 17-18 Cultivating Healthy Communities.  Our food system and landscaping practices are contributing to climate change and biodiversity loss. What is a Climate Justice Plan?

How does it differ from the more traditional climate planning that has occurred locally? What will it take to get there? On February 24, staff and community representatives on the climate justice team from Providence, RI presented their process and the very different outcome they achieved. Youth Climate Mobilization Summit

Recognizing the importance of youth-centric climate solutions, the Youth Opportunities Advisory Board (YOAB) for the City of Boulder hosted a Climate Mobilization Summit for young people on Feb. 1, 2020. Check out the recap video.

Boulder’s New Circular Economy Report

The city worked with sustainability consultant Metabolic to develop a holistic picture of all the materials being consumed, transformed and wasted in Boulder by mapping “material flows” to better identify opportunities to create less waste and to close resource loops locally. The report and the vision it lays out also draws on stakeholder and community input from the Circular Boulder event.

Local Power Project Update and Community Discussion

Envisioning Circular Boulder Event

On November 13, 2019 the City of Boulder hosted an event to brainstorm ideas for a circular Boulder. During this event, city staff and partners presented results from this work so far, introduced some of the innovative work taking place around the world, and then engaged with community members to create a vision for how this concept can come alive in Boulder. Game of Extremes Night

On November 21, the City and County of Boulder and the Urban Sustainability Director’s Network (USDN) hosted an opportunity to simulate Community Environmental action through a the Game of Extremes. The thirty plus participants were drawn from staff, participants in the Better Together Resilience trainings, and CMAP Resilience working group members. Read our recap.

The Background of CMAP

City of Boulder Declares Climate Emergency

The resolution commits the city to climate mobilization action that immediately prioritizes efforts to safely draw down carbon from the atmosphere and accelerate adaptation and resilience strategies in preparation for intensifying climate impacts. Learn more here.

City of Boulder’s CMAP Process

This process was discussed with council at the July 9 Study Session that will result in a new climate strategy in response to renewed climate urgency. This strategy is called the Climate Mobilization Action Plan, or CMAP. Fully addressing climate change will require immediate, system-scale action to create an equitable future, rapidly reduce emissions and accelerate technological innovation. Read More

The Climate Mobilization Website

The Climate Mobilization is an innovation lab that develops and launches policy frameworks, messaging, and organizing approaches to accelerate the global transition into “Emergency Mode” to address the climate emergency.
