Come and join our dear friend, Jax DeCoster, in this three-class workshop series from July to August. 

Hosted at Elk Run Farm in Lyons, CO, over the span of 3 Wednesday summer evenings, you can be sure to learn about how to take raw ingredients from the garden and turn them into delicious, nutrient dense foods that can last you deep into the winter & provide nourishment throughout the year. At Elk Run Farm, the land stewards eat about 90% of their diets from our 1/3 of an acre forest garden and parking-lots-turned-grain-fields, thanks to these tried and true methods of preserving, canning and homesteading.

Jax interned a full season at Elk Run Farm in 2021, where she made everything from umami plum preserves to homemade kombucha, among myriad experiments. She continued to make the homesteaded products for Elk Run throughout the following years. Her business, La Alquimista Kitchen, focuses on sourcing local, organic ingredients to cook for local families, and is now exploring the realm of workshops!

This series of classes will help you understand how to preserve & process what is in season. We’ll make an array of homestead recipes, depending on what is available and abundant, focusing on fermentation, canning, preserving and pickling. We may even include a few fresh & fun recipes that are central to the diet at Elk Run!

This is the first of several cooking and homesteading workshops that Jax will be hosting this Summer and Fall 2024.

Workshops are from 5:00 pm – 7:30 pm, with ending times varying slightly based on workshop topic.

All workshops are at Elk Run Farm. Please bring a small jar to take a portion of what you make back home with you! A notebook is also recommended.
