THIS IS [NOT] WHO WE ARE Film & Conversation

When: Sept 7, 6-9:30pm

Where: Boulder Public Library, Canyon Theater

RSVP HERE!

Boulder SURJ is proud to present the first event of our Justice Film Series! Join us to view the vital film THIS IS [NOT] WHO WE ARE, followed by a thought-provoking community conversation led by Film Director Katrina Miller and YOUnify Director of Engagement Pedro Silva. Doors will open at 6PM, and we will be meeting in the Canyon Theater in the Boulder Public Library. The programming will begin at 6:15 sharp, so plan on arriving early to allow time for parking and finding snacks & seating before the movie starts.

Boulder, Colorado, prides itself on being beautiful, welcoming, and inclusive. However, in 2019, racially-charged and dangerous policing involving a Black university student made national news. Directed by celebrated activist and filmmaker Katrina Miller, documentary film THIS IS [NOT] WHO WE ARE explores the gap between Boulder’s self-image and the more complex lived experiences—both historical and contemporary—of its Black citizens.

After witnessing the powerful stories and message of this film, you’ll have the special opportunity to participate in a thought-provoking community discussion facilitated by Katrina Miller herself and Pedro Silva. This group conversation will dive deep into the emotions brought up by watching the film in a safe, respectful environment for all.

This event is FREE, though donations are welcome so that we can contiue our programming into 2025 and keep paying our filmmakers and facillitators while maintaining a zero cost experience and remain open to all who would like to come! If you are able, please donate through our 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor, Longmont Community Foundation.

If you can’t make this event, our series will continue on October 5th at the Boulder Public Library – more info to come.
