Expanding Transmission Capacity with Grid Enhancing Technologies
When: October 15, 6-8pm
Where: Virtual

America’s aging and increasingly congested electrical grid has become a major impediment to the energy transition and will struggle to keep up with projected load growth. While many initiatives are underway to modernize and expand transmission to enhance reliability and resiliency while increasing access to lower cost renewable generation, these large-scale infrastructure projects will take many years to complete. Grid Enhancing Technologies (GETs) are solutions that allow existing transmission infrastructure to function more efficiently, expand their current capacity, and can be deployed rapidly and at a lower cost. We’ll be joined by Tim Stelzer and Eli Asher of LineVision who will provide an overview of GETs, the capabilities they offer, their current state-of-play in the U.S., and highlight case studies of dynamic line rating (DLR) technology. They will wrap up with a discussion of how legislation and regulation can play a role in ensuring the technology is used cost-effectively.
Eli Asher is the Manager of Policy & Regulatory for the Western U.S. at LineVision. Eli has nearly a decade of experience as an energy policy and regulatory expert with a passion for developing and overseeing the implementation of innovative solutions and clean energy policy. Eli works with federal and state regulators, lawmakers, and advocates to collaborate on policy solutions, such as requirements and incentives to deploy grid-enhancing technologies that drive the clean energy transformation.
Tim Stelzer is the Chief Operating Officer at LineVision. He is recognized for scaling global operations, leading digital transformations and building high performing teams to successfully deliver world-class new SaaS and IoT products and services to market serving a diverse range of industries such as energy, industrial, automotive and semiconductor. Tim previously held leadership positions at NI (Emerson) spanning software and hardware R&D, advanced manufacturing, data analytics, applications engineering, and technical sales.
