Street Wise Mural Festival

When: Sept 13-15

Where: East Boulder

LEARN MORE HERE!

Street Wise Mural Festival returns September 13-15, 2024. Street Wise Arts’ flagship program explores the intersection of art and activism (ARTivism) while centering womxn, BIPOC, LGBTQIA, and emerging artists based in Colorado and beyond. The Festival will primarily install public art projects in the neighborhood of East Boulder.

In 2024, the Street Wise Mural Festival will spotlight themes of environmentalism and climate action. Climate change is the most pressing issue facing our world today, affecting how we live, work, play, and plan for the future. We invite artists to create murals and public art projects that address this theme, humanizing climate change and its impacts, visualizing scientific data, and connecting viewers to climate scientists and activists. Ultimately we hope artists will educate and empower community members to take action and inspire climate optimism.

We must acknowledge that human-driven climate change is connected to colonization and dispossession of Indigenous communities, who stewarded this land and lived interconnectedly with all living systems for centuries. Street Wise recognizes that the Festival takes place on the traditional territories and ancestral homelands of the Cheyenne, Ute, and Arapaho peoples and 48 additional Indigenous nations. All climate actions should prioritize equity and justice and involve historically underrepresented communities.

Street Wise Arts will partner with the Roots Music Project and The Spark to expand programming to include live music and performances. Street Wise will also continue to incorporate augmented and virtual reality to deepen storytelling and strengthen collaboration with digital artists.

2024 Festival Goals:

  • Install public artworks and execute programming that encourages conversations of social justice and community resiliency.

  • Support and empower a diverse group of artists.

  • Humanize climate change and its impacts and visualize scientific data.

  • Connect community members to climate scientists and activists.

  • Educate and empower community members to take action.

  • Inspire climate optimism.
