The Justice Film Series Launch

When: July 19, 6:30-8:30pm

Where: Renée Crown Wellness Institute, CU Boulder

REGISTER HERE!

Please join us for the launch of our Justice Film Series! We are so excited and grateful to be able to kick off our series at the Reneé Crown Institute. Doors open at 6:15pm, and we will be meeting on the second floor of the Crown Insitute. The Crown does not have its own available parking but there is street parking in the area.

We will be showing the powerful film The Cost of Inheritance. Directed by Emmy® nominee and Peabody Award winner Yoruba Richen (The Rebellious Life of Mrs. Rosa Parks), The Cost of Inheritance: An America ReFramed Special presents a nuanced view of the key issues, scope, and rationale of the reparations debate from a number of perspectives. The film documents communities seeking to make amends for economic inequalities stemming from historic racial injustice with the aim to launch conversations about specific actions that aspire to close the racial wealth gap in America. The film’s runtime is a little less than an hour.

After the films conclusion, we will have reflection and conversation facilitated by Rev. Dr. Dawn Riley Duval. Rev. Dr. Dawn Riley Duval is s a social justice advocate and community organizer. She is a co-founder of the Black Lives Matter Denver Chapter, as well as a co-founder of Soul 2 Soul Sisters – a fiercely faith-based, Black-Womxn-led racial justice non-profit organization in Denver, CO. This group conversation will attempt to dive deep into the emotions brought up by watching the film in a safe respectful environment for all.

If you can’t make this event, our series will continue on the first Saturday of the month at the Canyon Theater of the Boulder Public Library at 6pm starting on September 7th. More info to come.

This event is FREE, though donations are welcome so that we can contiue our programming into 2025 and keep paying our filmmakers and facillitators while maintaining a zero cost experience and remain open to all who would like to come!

If you are able, please donate through our 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor, Longmont Community Foundation.
