The State of Sustainability in the Outdoor Industry Museum of Boulder

Tuesday May 14, 2019 11:00am – 11:50am
Museum of Boulder 2205 Broadway, Boulder, CO 80302

The growth and success of the outdoor industry is intrinsically linked to preserving our outdoor places for recreation and being good citizens in the communities where we all work and play. The Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) Sustainability Working Group is a forward-thinking, collaborative group of outdoor industry companies that continues to be on the leading edge of sustainable business practices. The OIA SWG has been tackling supply chain issues important to the industry, including carbon reduction, perfluorinated chemistries in durable water repellents; animal welfare; social responsibility and fair labor practices in factories; and microfiber shedding in oceans and waterways. SWG members have demonstrated an increasing level of sophistication in their understanding of complex topics, constantly balancing their desire to “do no harm” with the realities of business – and proving that the two mindsets can indeed coexist.
