Earth Justice Week 2023

It has been over a year since Boulder.Earth and Naropa University came together to create the Boulder County Climate Justice Hive, a collaborative climate justice model that is truly unique. Through this partnership, we aim to empower present and future generations to build a more resilient, just and equitable world that works for all.

Naropa University has the most comprehensive set of Earth Day events in Boulder this month that you won’t want to miss. Here are some highlights of Earth Justice Week:

Tuesday April 18th, 9AM – Noon: Pollinator Habitat: Fall In Love with the World (Again)!

Join us at the Arapahoe Campus to support local ecosystems by enhancing native pollinators. We will be planting flowers for healing in the Healing Garden, uplifting the Naropa Food Forest, planting pollinator starts and seeds, and nurturing soil ecology.

Wednesday April 19th, Noon – 1:20 PM: Earth Justice Day Keynote by Ava Hamilton (Arapaho)

Ava Hamilton is an independent documentary producer, historian, and water protector. She will be speaking about the need to re-center “indigenous knowledges” in order to cultivate true sustainability. The talk will be an informal discussion with active audience participation, and will be held at the Naropa Cultural Center on the Arapahoe Campus, as well as live on Zoom.

Wednesday April 19th, 2-4 PM: Earth Justice Day Celebration with Dr. Ietef Vita AKA DJ Cavem

Join us for Afro-Indigenous Hip Hop at the Performing Arts Center on the Arapahoe Campus with Dr. Vita, who will be signing his seed packets and other merch after the show. Dance your beat into the Earth for the Earth.

Thursday April 20th, 1pm – 3:30 PM: Boulder Creek Cleanup

Meet Naropa Staff at the Cultural Center to help clean up and protect our local creek.

Friday April 21st, 1-4 PM: Forest Bathing with a Master Herbalist

Join us for an immersion into Nature’s splendor based on the Japanese Practice of Forest Bathing, or Shinrin-yoku, in the foothills of Boulder county. This rejuvenating experience promotes deep connection with the more than human world, and includes guided invitations and community sharing.

Friday April 21st and Saturday April 22nd: Cob Building Workshop

Join us at the Arapahoe Campus for a beginners introduction to natural building techniques, specifically cob. Participants will have the opportunity to build and install a cob bench together, while learning about natural building philosophy and getting their hands dirty.
