Out of Time
By David Takahashi January 11, 2020
On January 11th, at 11 o’clock, for 11 minutes we rang the bells, blew on conch, struck our gongs, and beat our drums on the Boulder Pearl Street Mall. This 11th Hour Calling is part of a homegrown initiative of a climate activist in a local Methodist Church: she is concerned we are ignoring the warnings and that time is running out.
The action was a collaboration with our local Extinction Rebellion chapter: when the 11 minutes had passed, we heard the approaching sound of chanting which turned out to be a block long march of XR rebels. It was a gratifying joining of faith and activism that inspired further simple publicity and the power of working together.
The XR folks with their Non-Violent Direct Action agenda are quite masterful at orchestrating these events, as this article, published the evening of the 11th is testimony to.
We encourage you to take note of the 11th Hour Calling, and see if you can help Faith Communities announce their concern that our common home is being extracted out from under our feet? We will be at it again on Feb 11.
It doesn’t take much to have an impact. Please consider joining the commotion wherever your house of worship happens to be.
We truly are running out of time…
When sitting meditation is an act of rebellion…
